1. Are wards of the State of Nebraska safe? NO. My son was beat up at NE Youth Center. Staff left all the boys unsupervised and the boys that threatened my son acted on the threats. Thanks to me the ‘angry’ mother the NYC is under investigation but the staff are taking it out on MY SON

2. They used to be called “Jumpolenes” until your mom jumped on one back in 1972

3. I saw a lot of fireworks stands with very few people in them yesterday. SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY NORTH PLATTE!

4. Fireworks and lightning. Best 4th of July display ever!

Excuse me # 3….no support needed to be given for fireworks. Responsible people didnt want to risk loss when its this dry. Why dont you support the town and shut down the stand..

I love celebrating my freedom with fireworks, those who fought and fight for our freedom gave the ultimate sacrifice. Its the least i could do is celebrate by lighting fireworks. You have to be responsible about doing it. Water, water, water. If your kids are outside shooting them off you should be supervising them. Get together with friends and family thats less areas being at risk. If you dont like them move to a state that doesnt do it

nobody said they didn’t like them, just that its a little to dry this year to risk it… PLUS why would I want to dump money into my community when it all goes to building more banks and stuff we don’t need. Maybe when the city of North Platte starts building stuff for younger kids and families to do I’ll start supporting it more. Oh and not to mention something for teenage kids so they don’t get wrapped up in drugs like a good handful do.

I read somewhere that overall fireworks sales were down nationwide.

Fireworks are for the kids and teenagers. We explain the reasoning behind it, we eat, play and spend time as a family. I know it was dry this year but why cancel such an american icon because some people cant be responsible? Why let the city council take away that one right we have left. Fuddy duddies, gotta love em

You do NOT have to have fireworks to have the 4th of July. I dont think George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were widdling wood and putting candle wick together. If you got family you got the BBQ and the water be satisfied. Stop looking for something else AND why cant we sale the fireworks, be responsible and light them off for New Years. If fireworks are for the kids as they are for mine be a responsible adult and teach responsibility. Im sorry this year it was too dry and my child understood that and no fireworks needed. The city/county need to be responsible. Why make a problem worse when you can prevent the situation. Folks the fire at Lake Maloney- fireworks, fire at South Beach- fireworks, fire at Emory- fireworks, and how many more fires does it take to state. Stop a problem dont start a problem.

one problem with this town that unless you are a dr , work for the railroad , or are lucky enough to work in a government job nothing pays enough to get by on … i saw an american soldier using food stamps the other day … how sad is that that our soldiers cant support thier own families on what they make … and where i work i would bet 50% of the employees have food stamps to supliment because the dont make enough… our young folks cant even get a place of their own because they do not make enough ….

I have a government job and still scrape by. And, I dont have a smart phone, I dont have cable or satellite, I live in a small house, I dont have an expensive car, I dont have anything extra. The grass isnt always greener on the other side.

@triston…. If you haven’t realized the FEDERAL government is slowly taking your rights away every day… theres bigger and better things to worry about than some fireworks

I am sure that every single person that started a fire with fireworks also thought they were being responsible. It is simply too dry and they should have been banned. It has nothing to do with supporting the town or being patriotic. It is called being smart and unselfish
