Lincoln County CASA Sheds Light on Child Abuse with Superhero 5K

Posted 1 year ago

CASA-5KApril is National Child Abuse Prevention month. Every child needs a hero, but abused and neglected children need a superhero. To bring awareness to the issue in our community, Lincoln County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is hosting the 1st Annual CASA superhero 5K, Saturday, April 13th.

Lincoln County CASA’s mission is to advocate, support, and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children, striving to secure a safe and permanent home for each child.  Proceeds from the 5K will benefit our local CASA program in efforts to recruit and train CASA volunteers who will give a “voice” to abused and neglected children.

You can support the program by becoming a sponsor of the race and/or participating in the race itself.

As a former foster child, CASA is a joke. How exactly do they claim to advocate? Do they speak in court? Make recommendations to a judge or caseworker? Or just waste time….nice thought if they actually did something, kids need some one in their corner, I’ve never seen CAS do anything tho

As a current Casa advocate, it is no joke. I have spoken in court, prepared reports for the court letting the judge know two things…what the children have expressed to me that they want, as well as what I believe is in the best interests of the children. As a former foster child, you could offer a unique perspective as a Casa volunteer and could help to make a difference in the lives of others.

I’m glad to hear that you actually do something valuable behind the title. Sorry I was harsh from past experiences. Keep the good work going.

CASA has only been in North Platte for 1 year and just started appointing advocates in July 2012. Sorry we weren’t there for you, lol. But we would love your help.

the children in north platte needs some one to stick up for them . HHS sure drops the ball. I have seen where u have an emergency with a foster child and call the case worker and it take 3 days for them to get back to you. HHS lies to the foster parents and the children all the time. they are suppose to make home visits once a month I have seen where the child was in the home for over a years and the case worker never has been there. north platte has a shortage of foster parents and cant senn to get new ones or if they do they quit because of the lies and deceit from HHS and some of the groups attached to them .. so CASA if your truly for the children your first place to help them is look at HHS..
