Severe weather rolled through Central and Southwest Nebraska Sunday afternoon, spoiling many a Father’s Day Barbecue.

Large hail and damaging thunderstorm winds prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and even several tornado warnings, including a public reported tornado near Hyannis in Cherry County, and funnel clouds reported by spotters in Dawson, Buffalo and Custer Counties.

A semi-trailer was overturned between Lexington and Overton in Dawson County.  The Post has no confirmed report on whether a tornado or straight line winds caused the accident.  Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour were reported in several Counties.

Ping pong and golf ball sized hail was reported in Perkins, Hayes, Grant and Cherry Counties.

Torrential rains also accompanied the storms.

North Platte was once again the dividing point in the line of storms that split as they entered Lincoln County.  At one point, warnings were in effect to the north, south, east and west of the city.  North Platte received a few sprinkles and some rumbles of thunder.

That seems to happen to North Platte a lot, is there some scientific reasoning to it? Just coincidence? Or just really good luck?

We live 35 miles south of North Platte in Maywood and it happens down here also. Big storms head our way and we get nothing to where everywhere else around us gets the rain and whatever else is with the storm!!!!

Or maybe its like that South Park episode about hybrid cars causing “Smug Storms”, except instead of ‘smug’ its a huge ‘drama dome’ of some sort that causes rain clouds to divert around us…but I’m no weather man……..or am I?
