One of the men convicted in the botched robbery of Farmer’s State Bank in Wallace has escaped from the Work Ethics Camp in McCook.

According to reports, Drew Steier escaped on Friday evening, and may have stolen a vehicle from McCook.

Steier was sentenced to one and a half to three years in prison in April for his role in the botched robbery.

Steier entered the bank and brandished a fake gun, then demanded money.  Employees of the bank noticed the firearm was a fake, and refused to give Steier any money.

No further information on his possible destination or any other details of the escape were immediately available.

He has made some terrible decisions, but he is a sweet kid. I just pray he is okay and doesn’t get hurt.

They’ll catch him. He’s not smart enough NOT to escape from a minimum security work camp. He’s a Douche.

Escape? You mean he just walked out the front doors. The “inmates” there are on an honor system. the doors are always unlocked. I know this, as I worked there.

Clearly you didn’t work there recently. There are plenty of ways to escape from the facility if the person tries hard enough. There are not armed guards, but all entrances are sealed at all time.

less than a year ago. and no, all entrances are not “sealed”. You can walk right out the front door at nearly any time. Just get up from your lunch table and walk out.

That is almost true. You could get up from your lunch table, go to the dining door, ring the alarm, have the corporal at the control center unlock the dining room door , and then run outside.

Possibly trying to teach him to work and make money instead of stealing it. Wow I was under the impression that violent offenders weren’t allowed at the camp. Armed robbery with a fake gun is still violent. It can cause ptsd and that is abuse. Hhmmm. What a joke. Close it down.

He is not a violent person and the only reason he ever did this is because his mom’s stupid boyfriend talked him into it.
