First Lady Wants More People to Drink Plain Water

michelle-obama(AP) — Michelle Obama has pushed America to eat healthier and to exercise more. Now she says we should “drink up” too. As in plain water. And as in more of it.

She’s getting behind a campaign being announced Thursday by the Partnership for a Healthier America to encourage people to drink more water.

Organizers say too many people don’t drink enough water daily and about one-fourth of kids below age 19 don’t drink any water at all on any given day.

The first lady launched an initiative in 2010 to tackle childhood obesity. In the past, she has advocated switching from sugary sodas to water. But officials behind this new effort say it’s strictly about getting people to drink more water — not about promoting water over other beverages.

North Platte does not add anything to the water. Pumped from the ground to your tap!

Last I checked the city of north Plattes drinking water does go through a treatment facility. I thinks it’s even federal regulation for all cities to treat water with fluoride aka toxin and other chemicals… Not good at all. But yes the best water to drink would be your unaltered well or natural spring water from the acquifer.

I assure you there is no treatment of North Platte’s Water System. There are 14 municipal wells all tied directly to the city water mains. While the Federal government has and continues to require more and more stringent testing, to date we have met all of their regulations to continue to pump directly from the Ogallala aquifer to the consumer. Citizens of North Platte were required by the State to vote if they wanted fluoride added to the water and twice they have voted NO. There is a naturally occurring amount of fluoride present in the water about .05 Mg/l If you have questions or concerns about the city water please call 308- 535-6740 Ext # 3133

I stand corrected and retract my previous statement. Thankyou for the clarification T-bone. Makes me feel better about the water we drink here in NP.

The water in the Platte valley is naturally hard, I expect that is the white deposit your referring to. If you have an irrigation well deeper than 20′ you’ll be pulling from the same source the city does.

Chuck my thoughts exactly…she needs to mind her own business. We don’t want or need her “plans” for our kids lunches, or what I drink or don’t drink. Tired of her know it all attitude. Don’t like her husband, or her.

Yup, because Nancy Reagan didn’t try to promote a drug free America, Barbara Bush didn’t try to force Americans to learn how to read. And Laura Bush didn’t try to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS with public speaking engagements here and abroad. Oh wait, they are Republicans, white and so they fit the NP mentality. No uppity bit#hes there, just good old white ladies trying to do the best for the American people right?

While her husband is a flailing dolt, there are a lot of things his wife stands for that I like. Drinking the plain old tap is one of them. Amazes me how many people will complain about the price of gas and drive all over town looking for the cheapest, and in the same breath grab a bottled water – at the equivalent of $10 a gallon.

Unless you have your own well, you pay for it. Oh wait you still pay for it if you have your own well. Electricity to the pump to pump it to you and for filters if you have to filter it. So water being free. hahahaha
