Frances Elaine Neiman, 90, of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Sutherland Care Center.

Frances was born February 14, 1923, to August Jacob and Clara Camille Pick Kotschwar at Curtis, NE where she grew up. She graduated from high school there in 1941.

On September 11, 1942, Frances married Jon Leroy Neiman in Benkleman, NE and they lived on the Neiman Homestead south of Curtis then moved to a farm north of McCook, NE. In December 1959 they bought a ranch near Thedford, NE where they ranched until they moved to North Platte late in 2007.

Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star in McCook. She was also a member of the Thedford Art Guild and a local lady’s club for many years. Frances was an artist and a published poet who had received many awards for her poetry.

She was a fabulous cook, an avid reader and loved gardening. She also raised lambs, goats and sheep. Frances liked to sew and made her own clothes. She was a good wife and mother and was very close to her in-laws.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Mardee Neiman, of Lakewood, CO and Carol Jean (Terry) Lewis, of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren, Jon “Jack” (Kristi) Neiman, Jr., Jamie (Mike) McCreary, Troy (Christy) Neiman, Tegwin Egle, Trampas (Talli) Kluender, Christopher (Christina) Lewis and Jacob Lewis; seven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Michael, Garrett, Aiden, Claire Rose and Jack; and other family.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jon; a son, Jon “Jack”, Sr.; her parents, August and Clara Kotschwar; five brothers, Gerald, August “A.J.”, Harold, Esley and Richard Kotschwar; a grandson, Joseph Neiman; and two great-grandchildren, Kristin Neiman and Baby Neiman.

Graveside funeral service with Eastern Star Rites will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, NE. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials and cards can be sent to Carol Lewis at 2021 Edgewood Avenue; Las Vegas, NV 89102. Memorials are suggested to the Thedford Art Guild. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

    So sad. She was a wonderful lady with many great stories that she shared with me. I will miss her.
