Guadalupe “Lupe” L. Apodaca, age 83 of North Platte passed away at her home on Wednesday December 18, 2013.
Lupe was born on November 25, 1930 in Wellington, KS to Herman and Anastacia (Landeros) Caudillo Sr. Her family were migrant workers and she moved to North Platte with them as a child. She worked at the Pawnee Hotel as a bell-hop during WWII when the soldiers and sailors were coming through the Canteen. She also worked at TRW in Ogallala and St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte. She and Joseph Apodaca were married in Sidney, NE in May of 1964. Lupe was an excellent cook and known for her authentic Mexican cooking. Over the years she fed many people, no matter if they were family or not. She was an amazing, strong, and good hearted woman who accepted everyone and was loved by all who knew her.
Lupe is survived by her children Anna (Jim) Smith, Colleen (Chuck) Davis, Diana Apodaca, Daniel Apodaca, Nick Apodaca, Virgil Apodaca and Sandy (Rueben) Valdez all of North Platte; grandchildren Ashley, Jaeme, Adrian, Anthony, Jeromy, Virgil Jr., Amber, Natasha, Karissa, Cezi, Isaiah, Cynthia and Marcela; several great grandchildren; siblings Shirley Garcia of Denver, Carmen Gonzales of North Platte, Jennie Lope of North Platte, Herman Caudillo, Jr. of North Glenn, CO and Manuel Caudillo of North Platte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Apodaca; and siblings Tony, John, Nellie, Frank, Hoover and Isaac Caudillo.
Memorials may be made in her name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Christian Wake Services will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday December 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Reverend James Golka as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
