Omaha Schools Head Unveils Cancer Diagnosis

January 24, 2014 by Post Staff Leave a Comment

mark-evans(AP) — Omaha Public Schools Superintendent Mark Evans has revealed that he has a common form of skin cancer and will undergo treatment over the next month.

The 54-year-old Evans, who started as superintendent in July, announced his diagnosis at this week’s school board meeting.

Evans has basal-cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer.

The treatment is topical, and he does not plan on taking any medical leave.

Evans told the newspaper that students and staff should learn from his diagnosis to always wear sunscreen. Evans says that as a young person in the 60s and 70s, he wasn’t aware of the importance of sunscreen and is now suffering the consequences.
