Adams Middle School Placed on Lockdown for Canine Search

Adams-Middle-SchoolAdams Middle School, in North Platte, was placed on lockdown this morning so a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department K-9 could search lockers at the school.

According to Principal Jeff Steinbeck, the North Platte Public School District policy manual states that, “Students should not expect privacy regarding items placed in or on school property, because school property is subject to search at any time by school officials.”

Steinbeck said, in an email to parents, that the K-9 was used to search lockers in the student hallways and locker rooms.

“The procedure was conducted to ensure the safety of the Adams Middle School students and staff,” Steinbeck said.

Those with questions or concerns should contact the Adams Middle School office at (308) 535-7112.

There are no confirmed reports of any contraband being located.

I’m sure you’ll be the first to complain when something bad happens, though, eh?

Don’t be naïve people, middle school kids are being peer pressured into drugs and violence just as any high school kids are.

You people are so naïve! They were not looking for anything; they were training the children to accept the police state. They need to teach them how to be good little vassals who do not stand up for their rights. I am not so naïve to think that middle-schoolers would not be doing drugs, but this has nothing to do with drugs and smacks of social engineering to accept totalitarianism.

Not saying they are not, but there is more here than meets the eye! This is happening all over the country as the police are training our children to freely and willingly give up their rights!

My kids came home yesterday tellin us that a 7th grader came to school high and that’s why the K9 came in..who knows

Raven, if that is true, then the school needs to deal with the kid that came in high. Don’t subject the whole student body to suspicion of drug use and searches. I couldn’t agree more with PB. As a matter of fact, just talked with a middle school student at Adams today and he was perfectly fine with the locker search. We keep giving it up little by little.

‘The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution states, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” No where in this law does it create special divisions or classifications between adults and minors in society, so one should naturally assume that persons under 18 should be afforded the same protections as anyone over 18. The moment when minors are most at the mercy of government officials is while in school, and this is when these Constitutional Fourth Amendment protections are needed.’ – youthrights.org

How then is this constitutional? How is this not unlawful search and seizure? Why are our schools allowing this instead of teaching children the rights they possess that no man or government should be allowed to violate? These children should have known to stand up and say that this is a violation of their rights and that they do not consent to illegal searches.
