Community Playhouse to Hold Auditions for ‘She Stoops to Conquer’

She-Stoops-to-Conquer-LogoAuditions for the first play of the season at the North Platte Community Playhouse will be heldAugust 10 and 11 at 7:00 p.m.  “She Stoops To Conquer” by Oliver Goldsmith includes a cast of eight men and four women.  There are parts for both older and younger actors and actresses.  Those desiring to audition should come to the Patty Birge Room prepared to read for a part, but will not need to bring any audition materials of their own.    They are welcome to come either Monday or Tuesday, or may come both nights if they desire.

The play includes a number of very interesting characters including Mr. and Mrs. Hardcastle, their daughter Kate and step-son Tony Lumpkin.   Kate and her friend Constance Neville are being courted by Young Marlow and his side-kick Hastings.   A variety of bumbling servants complete the household.   Director Robert Allen would particularly like to encourage participation by actors and actresses in their late teens to early thirties for the two couples and the bad boy Tony Lumpkin.

The performances of “She Stoops To Conquer” will take place September 25, 26 and 27 andOctober 2, 3 and 4.  The Goldsmith play has been considered a classic since its first performances in London in 1776.  As a comedy of manners, it pokes fun of the customs and society practices of that day while providing timeless humor with keen insight into the human experience.

LCSO Begins Housing State Inmates

lincoln_countyjailOn July 23, the Lincoln County Detention Center began housing Nebraska Department of Corrections inmates.

Initially the Detention Center will house around ten Department of Correction inmates, but will house more if space allows. Only certain types of inmates will be housed at the Lincoln Detention Center.

All inmates who are released from the Department of Corrections will be transported back to Lincoln for release, not North Platte.

Officials say the highly trained staff at the Lincoln County Detention Center can manage these inmates with few problems.

“We all know that inmates in prison were once housed in County Jails,” the LCSO said in a news release. “All medical, legal and transportation costs will be paid for by the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

Projected revenue from this program will be $300,000.00 to $400,000.00 per year, depending on the number of inmates. This is on top of the approximately $100,000.00 the Detention Center generates for housing surrounding counties inmates.

All revenue will go back to the Lincoln County General Fund.
