Huskers close Regular Season at Michigan State, #2 Michigan

The Nebraska women’s tennis team (11-9, 2-7 Big Ten) hits the road for the final two regular-season matches as NU faces Michigan State (10-13, 1-8  Big Ten) in East Lansing on Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. and No. 2 Michigan (21-3, 9-0 Big Ten) Sunday, April 21 at 12 p.m., in Ann Arbor. Both matches are in central and live video and scoring can be found on Huskers.com.

Scouting Michigan State 

  1. Michigan State has one ranked singles player, Ria Bhakta, who is ranked No. 106. Doubles pair Nicole Conard and Ayshe Can are ranked No. 35. 
  2. The Spartans are currently on a three-match losing streak and will face No. 65 Iowa on Sunday to close the regular season. 

Series History vs. Michigan State 

  1. Michigan State leads the all-time series 6-2, but last year NU defeated the Spartans 4-2.  

Scouting Michigan 

  1. Michigan has seven ranked singles players: No. 3 Kari Miller, No. 24 Julia Fliegner, No. 56 Gala Mesochoritou, No. 85 Lily Jones, No. 116 Piper Charney and No. 121 Bayley Sheinin. On the doubles side, duo Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller are ranked sixth.
  2. With two wins this weekend, Michigan can clinch their second-straight Big Ten Championship.
  3. Senior Kari Miller leads the team with a 28-7 singles record and has 93 career wins.

  1. Michigan holds the all-time advantage over the Huskers, 8-0. 

Numbers to Watch

  1. Freshman Maria Taranova leads the team with a 21-6 singles mark. Her 21 wins are the most for a freshman since Patricia Veresova in the 2009-10 season.
  2. Isabel Adrover Gallego is 59-41 in doubles play with partner Lucy Loy, who just surpassed 30 doubles wins as a Husker. The pair is 10-4 on the season and 8-2 in the spring. 
  3. Raphaelle Lacasse and Isabel Adrover Gallego are ranked No. 82 in doubles.
