Mary Jane Owens, 81, of North Platte, Nebraska, formerly of Hill City, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital.
Mary was born on September 30, 1942, in Portland, Oregon. She married Harold E. Owens on November 26, 1962 , together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. She and Harold lived in Hill City, SD together for the past 23 years until his passing on July 6, 2014. She remained there until just recently when she returned to North Platte, NE to be closer to her daughter and her family.
She loved being a wife and mother, a Gramie and Great Gramie. She especially loved Christmas and the times they all spent together as a family playing games. She loved her things, which included her deer collection, her Raggedy Ann collection and Precious Moments. She was very loved by all that knew her, from her flower arrangements to the paintings she shared or the sewing projects, or all the visits and phone calls and reading on her Kindle, to all the letters to her granddaughter and all her friends far and near.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Owens, her parents, David and Helen Johnson, her brother Tom Johnson, her daughter Bonny Jane Owens, and nephew Michael Suedekum.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Tonya Long (Max) of Glade, KS; her sister, Sue Suedekum (Melvin) AZ; her granddaughter, Brenna Malmberg (Cole) of San Diego, CA; her grandson, Skye Long (Jesse) of Kinsley, KS, nieces Sheri (Tom) Romero, FL, Randee Johnson, WY and her great-grandchildren Agnes, Otis, Owen and Cameron.
A private family service will be held at a later date at Floral Lawns Memorial Garden in North Platte, NE. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations for a memorial bench that will be placed at the 1880 Train Station in Hill City, SD can be mailed to Carpenter Memorial Chapel in care of Tonya Long.
