The North Platte Public Schools Foundation is preparing for its annual Bulldog Golf Classic while continuing to support students and classrooms across the district through multiple assistance programs.

The Bulldog Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, May 29, at Lake Maloney Golf Course. The event, held in partnership with the Bulldog Booster Club, serves as a major fundraiser benefiting students throughout North Platte Public Schools, particularly at the high school level where enrollment is largest.

“It really supports the students at the high school because that’s where most enrollment is,” said Foundation Executive Director Terri Burchell. “But it really helps all of the students across the district.”

In addition to fundraising events, the Foundation administers the Prepared2Learn Fund, which helps students access school supplies and other educational needs. Burchell said the program goes beyond basic items to ensure students are prepared to succeed.

“We feel that each student should have their own set of things that they can kind of claim and take care of and have responsibility for,” Burchell said.

The Prepared2Learn Fund has also been used to assist students with needs such as eyeglasses, testing fees, and college visits. Burchell said the goal is to respond to individual circumstances when barriers arise.

“Sometimes you just have to think outside the box of what does that student need,” she said.

The Foundation also provides REACH teacher grants, which help educators fund classroom materials, field trips, and instructional resources not always covered by school budgets. Burchell said the grants are designed to reduce costs passed on to families while supporting long-term classroom use.

“It might be something that they’re able to use over and over again so that we don’t ask students to purchase those items,” she said.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — NebraskaLand Bank employees donated $18,900 to area nonprofit organizations through the bank’s annual “My Fair Share” program, an employee-driven charitable initiative that has supported communities since 2004.

The program allows employees to voluntarily contribute a portion of their paychecks to nonprofit organizations serving the communities where the bank operates. In 2025, funds raised will be distributed to eight organizations: Bridge of Hope, Make-A-Wish Nebraska, the Autism Society of Nebraska, McKenna’s Rae of Hope, Kearney Animal Shelter, Kearney Area Community Foundation, Hospice of Sweetwater County, and Sweetwater Family Resource Center.

NebraskaLand Bank will recognize this year’s recipients during a breakfast and check presentation at its North Platte, Kearney, and Rock Springs locations. The North Platte presentation is scheduled for February 13 at 8:30 a.m. at NebraskaLand Bank, 1400 South Dewey Street, in the main lobby on the first floor.

The “My Fair Share” program reflects the bank’s long-standing culture of community involvement, with employees nominating organizations and committing financial support throughout the year.

NebraskaLand Bank Employees Donate Nearly $19,000 Through “My Fair Share” Program

FEBRUARY 9, 2026 (LEXINGTON, NEB.)&nbsp;&nbsp; —&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Colorado man after locating 116 pounds of marijuana processing material during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Dawson County.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Sunday, a trooper observed a westbound vehicle speeding on I-80 near mile marker 238. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 116 pounds of marijuana resin, wax, and vape. Also located were items for processing marijuana into smaller portions. Dawson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.

The driver, Dylan Worrall, 24, of Colorado, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no tax stamp. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail.

The fourth concert in the 2025/26 season will feature Steve Lungrin, an internationally known singer-songwriter, independent recording artist, performer, and web-based piano teacher with roots in Nebraska.

Lungrin’s program will feature favorites by Billy Joel and Elton John, along with Broadway standouts. The Willow &amp; Oak facility adds a special touch to this Lungrin’s performance, an intimate and airy hall with refreshments available and tables full of friends and family enjoying every note.

Lungrin’s musical path began at age 7, and he has performed professionally for over 30 years. He is an Ogallala native, and his father was a local business hour, founder of the Rendezvous event, and partner with Jim Thalken announcing high school sports. Steve was particularly inspired by the singer-songwriters of the ‘60s, '70s, and '80s, his piano idols Billy Joel &amp; Elton John. Lungrin has performed as a soloist and as part of various ensembles at venues ranging from the Greeley, CO Jazz Festival, Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO, Canadian Wonderland in Toronto, ON (Canada), the White House lawn in Washington, DC, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. He was the first-ever Cornhusker State Games Talent Competition Gold Medalist in 1995, where he performed his signature song, Billy Joel's "Piano Man," for over 5,000 people at the tender age of 17.

His creativity also led him to develop a teaching method in 2011 that he dubbed the Piano Man Approach. Lungrin has a busy schedule of live performances while teaching, composing, and releasing his own music.

Pope Leo XIV has appointed James R. Golka as the next Archbishop of Denver, according to an announcement from Vatican News released Feb. 7, 2026.

Before his rise to national prominence within the Catholic Church, Golka spent 10 years serving in North Platte, a period that marked a significant chapter in his priestly and pastoral career.

Golka was assigned to St. Patrick’s Parish in North Platte in 2006, where he served as pastor until 2016. During that decade, he led parish operations, oversaw parish ministries, and worked closely with families, parishioners, and the parish school as part of the Diocese of Grand Island.

A native of Grand Island, Golka was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Grand Island in 1996. His early ministry included several parish assignments across central and western Nebraska, Alliance &amp; Scottsbluff amongst those stops before his long-term posting in North Platte.

After completing his tenure in North Platte, Golka returned to Grand Island, where he served as rector of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and later as vicar general for the diocese. In 2021, he was appointed Bishop of Colorado Springs.

His appointment as Archbishop of Denver places him at the helm of one of the largest archdioceses in the United States. The Vatican announcement notes that his installation in Denver is expected to take place later this spring.

For North Platte, Golka’s appointment highlights the role the community played in shaping a church leader whose ministry now extends well beyond Nebraska.

The Hot Sheets: February 8, 2026

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday, Feb. 9, at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

Commissioners will begin the meeting with approval of minutes from the Feb. 2 meeting, followed by a public comment period. The board is also scheduled to review and act on routine business, including claims, treasurer’s receipts, and fee reports submitted by the Clerk of District Court, County Clerk, and County Sheriff. Commissioners will also consider authorizing the board chair to sign IRS Form 2848, a power of attorney and declaration of representative.

At 9:15 a.m., the board will recess and convene as the Lincoln County Board of Equalization. During that portion of the meeting, members will approve minutes from the previous Board of Equalization meeting, take public comment, and consider certificates of correction and refunds submitted by the County Assessor.

The board will then reconvene as the Board of Commissioners and take up several legislative-related items. At 9:20 a.m., commissioners will discuss and consider a letter of opposition to Legislative Bill 915. At 9:30 a.m., the board will consider a resolution opposing LB 1204. A letter of support urging a local state representative to vote “yes” on bipartisan housing reform legislation is scheduled for discussion at 9:40 a.m.

The agenda also allows time for a closed session, if necessary, to discuss matters including pending or imminent litigation, real estate transactions, security issues, or evaluation of job performance. The meeting will conclude with concerns from elected officials or department heads, followed by committee reports.

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners reserves the right to take agenda items out of order and to enter closed session as needed. The meeting will be streamed live on the county’s YouTube channel.

The North Platte City Council wrapped up a brief meeting this week, approving several appointments, agreements, and routine items, according to a post-meeting recap from Mayor Brandon Kelliher.

The meeting lasted just 13 minutes, making it one of the shorter sessions during Kelliher’s tenure as mayor. He noted that while short meetings do happen from time to time, most upcoming council meetings are expected to be longer due to pending agenda items.

During the meeting, council members approved the mayor’s appointment of Sarah Ostmeyer to the Library Advisory Board. City leaders highlighted the importance of volunteers who give their time to serve the community through advisory roles.

The council also approved the reappointments of Stephen Granger, Jim Griffin, Casey Anderson, Steve Olson, and Glenn Van Velsen to the North Platte Historical Preservation Commission. The commission works to preserve and maintain historic structures throughout the city, particularly in the Canteen District and downtown North Platte.

Kelliher said the work of the preservation commission often goes unnoticed unless problems arise, noting that continued upkeep of historic buildings helps keep downtown an attractive place for businesses, restaurants, and visitors. He added that increased foot traffic downtown reflects the city’s growth, even if it sometimes means fewer available parking spaces.

Council members also approved a license agreement with NP Ice, allowing the seasonal outdoor ice rink to return to Centennial Park. Officials acknowledged challenges created by warmer winter weather and said the city hopes to work toward a future location that could offer overhead coverage to help preserve ice conditions.

In other business, the council approved a $16,000 professional services agreement with Miller &amp; Associates to update the city’s historic buildings survey. The update is required by the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office and is typically completed about once every decade. The last update was completed in 2008.

The council also approved claims, completing the meeting’s remaining agenda items.

Outside of council action, Kelliher highlighted a recent statewide development involving North Platte leadership. Pat Keenan was elected board chair of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, marking the first time a North Platte resident has held the position. Kelliher said the appointment gives western Nebraska a stronger voice in statewide economic discussions.

Group tourism continues to grow in North Platte and Lincoln County, thanks in large part to targeted efforts by Visit North Platte.

Amanda Connick focuses on attracting group tours for Visit North Platte, including how motorcoach tours, reunions, conventions, and senior travel groups are discovering what the area has to offer — often for the first time.

Connick said her primary role is bringing organized group travel to the region, particularly bus tours that may have previously passed through North Platte without stopping.

“Many of them had no idea what we had to offer,” Connick said. “It’s so much fun promoting what we have.”

Classic attractions and group-only experiences

Connick said groups are often familiar with North Platte’s staple attractions, including the Golden Spike Tower, Lincoln County Historical Museum, and Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park.

But she said Visit North Platte has also worked to create exclusive group-only experiences to give tour operators even more reasons to include the community in their itineraries.

Those experiences range from guided storytelling and themed meals to hands-on activities that highlight local history and culture.

One of the biggest surprises for visitors, Connick said, is learning that North Platte is home to the world’s largest railroad classification yard, operated by Union Pacific Railroad.

“Train people love it,” she said, adding that events like Rail Days and visits to the Golden Spike Tower draw a passionate following.

Connick said groups are often intrigued — and amused — by the idea of tanking on the North Platte River, an activity that has become increasingly popular with organized tours in recent years.

While many group travelers are seniors, she said the experience is accessible and adaptable for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Another standout experience is the North Platte World War II Canteen story, which Connick described as one of the community’s most powerful and meaningful attractions. Group tours can attend presentations, enjoy a themed canteen-style meal, and finish the experience with angel food cake, tying history and hospitality together.

Groups can also enjoy appearances by a Buffalo Bill Cody impersonator, horse-drawn wagon rides, wine tasting paired with stargazing, downtown walking tours highlighting historic buildings, and even ice cream for breakfast — a favorite tradition that is also offered exclusively to visiting bus groups.

“We have beef, we have birds, we have Buffalo Bill,” Connick said. “What more can you ask for?”

Connick emphasized that many of the experiences promoted to group tours are also available to local residents, encouraging the community to take part in the same activities visitors enjoy.

She said Visit North Platte has seen a healthy increase in both group travel and individual visitors in recent years, benefiting businesses across the community.

One of the newest tourism initiatives is North Platte Coffee Week, hosted for the first time by Visit North Platte.

The event runs Feb. 8–14 and features a Coffee Week Passport, encouraging residents and visitors to explore local coffee shops and tea locations.

Participants who purchase a beverage at seven different locations during the week can turn in their completed passport at Visit North Platte for prizes. Additional visits and social media participation can earn extra entries into prize drawings.

Connick said passports are available at the Visit North Platte office and at all participating locations.

Participating businesses include Seven Brew, All Sorts and Mug Coffee Shop, The Coffee Bin, Dunkin’, Einstein Bros. Bagels, The Espresso Shop, Lose Coffee, Mellow Grind, Scooter’s, The Fix, TJ Nutrition, and Voodoo Coffee.

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners used January to reorganize leadership roles, reassign committee responsibilities, and set the groundwork for a fiscally cautious year ahead, according to Board Chair Kent Weems and Vice Chair Chris Bruns.

Weems said the board’s annual January reorganization included electing leadership, reassigning committee seats, and reappointing department heads who report directly to the county board.

Weems explained that committee changes were intentional, aimed at cross-training commissioners and preparing for expected board transitions in coming years. Commissioner Hughley has indicated this may be his final term, prompting the board to bring newer members into long-standing committee roles, including Region 2, the local drug and rehabilitation facility, and law enforcement labor negotiations.

“If you don’t serve on those committees, you don’t really know what’s going on,” Weems said, noting that committee work makes up much of the board’s day-to-day responsibilities.

One of January’s most discussed actions was the board’s salary resolution, required by state statute every four years. Weems emphasized that the resolution does not impact current commissioners but instead sets compensation levels for officials who will serve beginning in January 2027.

The board voted to hold county board salaries flat, approving no cost-of-living increases for the next four-year cycle.

“These are tax dollars,” Weems said. “We’re trying to set a good example and be very frugal with limited funds.”

The delayed implementation of salary resolutions is designed to prevent officials from voting themselves immediate raises and to provide transparency for voters ahead of elections.

Vice Chair Chris Bruns said the board unanimously reappointed all four department heads who report directly to the county board:

Bruns said each department has demonstrated strong fiscal responsibility while managing limited resources.

“They do a lot with a little,” Bruns said. “The board has full confidence in them moving forward.”

January also marked preparation for the county’s annual “one and six” road plan, which outlines short-term and long-term infrastructure priorities. Lincoln County maintains more than 1,600 miles of county roads across 72 townships, making it one of Nebraska’s largest counties by land area.

Weems said the plan helps prioritize projects when funding is limited, noting that the county may have only a fraction of the dollars needed to address all infrastructure needs in a given year.

Commissioners also discussed courthouse and jail security, though details remain limited for safety reasons. Bruns said the county regularly evaluates both physical security and cybersecurity risks, including attempted cyber intrusions.

The board recently worked with Homeland Security specialists to stress-test systems and identify vulnerabilities, developing a strategic plan to address security concerns while remaining fiscally responsible.

Sheriff’s Office Equipment and Budget Oversight

The board approved vehicle purchases for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office that were already included in the budget. Bruns said Sheriff Kramer has implemented a long-term vehicle replacement plan to maximize value for taxpayers, recently shifting from pickup trucks to SUVs due to rising vehicle costs.

Weems added that department heads are regularly challenged to justify expenditures, noting the board closely scrutinizes major purchases such as motor graders and heavy equipment.

Commissioners emphasized that property tax is the county’s primary revenue source, unlike cities that can rely on sales tax. Weems said the board remains sensitive to the financial pressures facing both agricultural producers and homeowners.

“We’re all paying property tax,” Weems said. “We know how tight things are.”

Looking ahead, the board is nearing completion of a multi-year comprehensive plan and zoning regulation rewrite, last updated in 2012.

Draft documents are available on the county website under the Planning and Zoning tab. Weems said the plan will guide growth decisions for the next decade and is designed to be legally defensible if challenged.

North Platte, Neb. - With 133 days to go until NebraskaLand Days returns to North Platte, Executive Director Bob Lantis says planning is already in high gear — starting with the annual Buffalo Bill Birthday Bash fundraiser later this month.

The Bash is set for Friday, Feb. 28 at the D&amp;N Event Center.

This year’s Buffalo Bill Birthday Bash will feature a “Talladega Nights” NASCAR theme, with Buffalo Bill Cody expected to make an appearance in a NASCAR-style outfit as part of the celebration.

Lantis said the bash is held in recognition of Buffalo Bill’s birthday — Feb. 26 — and is designed as both a community event and a major fundraiser.

“It helps raise money for NebraskaLand Days and facility improvements,” Lantis said, adding that the organization is working toward “big projects” in the future and the bash is one way to build support.

What to expect: auctions, live music, and a silent auction

Lantis said the evening will begin with doors opening at 6 p.m., followed by a brief program at approximately 7 p.m. The event then moves into a live auction, with roughly 14 to 15 major items expected.

Items mentioned during the interview included golf trips, utility trailers, football ticket packages, and more. After the live auction, the venue will be adjusted for entertainment.

Live music will follow from the Dylan Bloom Band, with hospitality areas opening during the concert portion of the night. A silent auction will also be available, remaining open until around 10 p.m.

The Buffalo Bill Birthday Bash is a ticketed, 21-and-over event, with tickets set at $60. Lantis said the ticket includes admission, a meal, and drink tickets, plus access to complimentary hospitality service once booths open, along with a cash bar option.

He also hinted the organization may roll out additional promotions or announcements ahead of the bash, adding organizers anticipate a strong crowd this year.

NebraskaLand Days 2026: rodeo and concert lineup

Looking ahead to June, Lantis said the 62nd annual NebraskaLand Days will include four nights of PRCA rodeo and two nights of country music, featuring Grammy Award-winning talent.

He highlighted **Treaty Oak Revival performing on Friday, June 26, and Zach Top on Saturday, June 27, noting Top recently earned a Grammy.

Central Nebraska community partners are coming together to host a free Ag Health and Safety Event, Cultivating Health, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Gothenburg.

The event will be held at the Dayspring Bank Event Center and is designed to take a broad look at the health, safety, and day-to-day challenges involved in agriculture and rural life.

Joe Richeson, one of the organizers, said the event goes beyond traditional safety training.

“This isn’t hard-hat safety or excavation safety,” Richeson said. “It’s more of a top-down approach to what it takes to run an ag operation, whether you’re a producer, farmer, rancher, or involved in ag in some other way.”

Sessions throughout the day will cover a wide range of topics, including mental health, distracted driving, water quality and quantity, nitrates in drinking water, occupational safety, and nutrition for long workdays in the field.

Presenters include the Nebraska Trucking Association, members of the governor’s groundwater task force, Nebraska Medicine, and an occupational therapist focusing on safe movement and body mechanics. A session on food preparation will also address how to safely prepare energy-rich meals for long days during planting, harvesting, or livestock work.

Richeson said the event is open to anyone, not just those directly involved in agriculture.

“You don’t have to be ag-related to attend,” he said. “Ag touches everyone’s life every day, whether you realize it or not.”

Spouses and family members are encouraged to attend, particularly for the mental health session, which focuses on coping with the stresses unique to the agricultural industry, including markets, employees, and daily uncertainty.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. Exhibit booths will be set up by noon and remain open until 4 p.m., with sessions concluding at 4 p.m. A business-after-hours event will follow from 4 to 7 p.m.

Attendees may come and go throughout the day and are not required to stay for all sessions. A free lunch will be provided, and local FFA members will assist during the event.

Health screenings will also be available through Gothenburg Health, with options for multiple screenings, including full blood work for those who choose to fast.

NORTH PLATTE — The Miss Nebraska Organization will return to North Platte in early February for its annual Crowns and Gowns weekend, bringing pageant events, leadership workshops and a former Miss America to the community.

Crowns and Gowns is scheduled for Feb. 6–8 and serves as the final local competition opportunity for contestants before the Miss Nebraska state pageant in June. Events are centered around professional development for young women ages 14 to 27, as well as public activities open to the community.

This year’s weekend will feature Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000, who will serve as a keynote guest throughout the weekend. French Henry will emcee the local Miss Nebraska competition on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Mid-Plains Community College. Doors are expected to open at 6:30 p.m., with tickets available at the door.

She will also headline a Women’s Empowerment Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at North 40 Chophouse. Tickets for the luncheon are available online at MissNebraska.org.

Megan Doughty, executive director of the Miss Nebraska Organization, said Crowns and Gowns is designed to help young women grow far beyond the stage.

“The word ‘pageant’ is really a misnomer anymore,” Doughty said. “It’s about developing personal passions, advocacy and life skills that carry through long after competition.”

Throughout the weekend, delegates will participate in workshops focused on interview skills, public speaking, branding, advocacy development and community engagement. Professional hair and makeup services, headshot photography and private gown appointments will also be offered.

The local competition includes personal interviews with judges, on-stage questions, fitness wear, evening gown and talent segments. Scholarships are awarded based on placement and special awards.

According to Doughty, the Miss Nebraska Organization awards more than $40,000 annually in cash scholarships, along with access to more than $1 million in tuition scholarships through partnerships with Nebraska colleges and universities.

The current titleholders include Miss Nebraska’s Teen Gabriella Swift of North Platte and Miss Nebraska 2025 Mackenzie Gregory of Scottsbluff.

Doughty said community support has helped make North Platte a key location for pageant events statewide.

“We’re bringing young women from across Nebraska to experience our community,” she said. “It’s about showcasing North Platte while helping these delegates realize their potential.”

State’s top election official has said he plans to hand the data to the Justice Department later this week

LINCOLN – A Lancaster County District Court judge dismissed a lawsuit without prejudice late last week that sought to stop the state from handing over its voter data to the U.S. Department of Justice.&nbsp;

District Judge Lori Maret said in her Friday ruling that Common Cause lacks standing to sue because the alleged harm is speculative and not imminent, and ruling now would not end the controversy surrounding the DOJ request, including what information the Justice Department would ultimately seek or what Nebraska would provide.&nbsp;She also did not rule on the legal question at the heart of the lawsuit.

The judge&nbsp;<a href="https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2026/01/29/court-hears-lawsuit-seeking-to-stop-nebraska-from-releasing-voter-data-to-federal-government/">heard arguments</a>&nbsp;last month. Common Cause argued that Nebraska law affords federal officials no special rights to access residents’ private information included in parts of the voter file. The state argued that federal agencies still play a valuable role in elections overseen by states, noting that the federal government has a wealth of information and resources that help states with election systems.

Voting advocacy group Common Cause has appealed the ruling to the Nebraska Court of Appeals, which gave the case a docket number. Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has said he plans to hand over the voter data to the DOJ on Thursday.&nbsp;

Evnen told reporters last week that he plans to send a letter to the DOJ with the voter data to remind the agency of “its obligation under law to keep the information confidential and to honor the privacy statutes of our country and our state.”

Federal officials have asked states for names, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers and the last four digits of voters’ Social Security numbers, saying they want the information to ensure accurate voter registration rolls, based on reporting in other states. In Nebraska, the information maintained is more limited.

The Justice Department has requested voter data from 44 states and Washington, D.C. so far, with plans to ask for that information from all 50 states. A few GOP-led states have declined or not responded, citing privacy concerns. A majority of Democratic-run states have declined to turn over the information.

Critics have questioned the safety of letting any presidential administration consolidate state voter data in one place. The federal government has sued more than 20 states and the District of Columbia for not complying.

“We believe in the merits of this case, and we will exhaust every option to protect voters,” said Gavin Geis, Common Cause’s Nebraska Executive Director. “Nebraskans shouldn’t have to wait until they experience catastrophic harm to demand that the state protect their private data.”&nbsp;

A federal judge&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/federal-judge-dismisses-doj-lawsuit-seeking-oregon-voter-rolls-rcna256069" target="_blank">dismissed</a>&nbsp;the Justice Department’s lawsuit seeking Oregon’s voter data last month.&nbsp;The DOJ asked&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/01/24/us/pam-bondi-walz-doc.html" target="_blank">Minnesota</a>&nbsp;to hand over its voter rolls as part of a federal offer to reduce the presence of&nbsp;<a href="https://minnesotareformer.com/2026/01/29/homan-im-staying-til-the-problem-is-gone/" target="_blank">thousands of immigration agents in the state</a>&nbsp;last month.

The Secretary of State’s Office, in a statement Monday afternoon, confirmed that Evnen intends to hand over the data on Thursday.&nbsp;The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office declined to comment.

Nebraska judge tosses lawsuit to keep state from releasing voter data to feds

On Monday at the direction of U.S. Southern Command commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations, according to a social media report from the U.S. Southern Command.

 Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations.
